MAY 27-29, 2017 Territory Days - HO TRAIN SHOW - FREE

The popular HO scale modular railroad --- the Colorado East Central Railway--- will again be operating 9:00 to 4:00 during Territory Days at the Old Colorado City History Center. The portable layout is 28 feet long and will fill the main display area of the museum.

In the spirit of Territory Days and early Colorado City, some HO model Colorado Midland steam locomotives will be pulling both passenger and freight trains. The display will also include freight and passenger trains from the 1920s to the 1950s pulled by Santa Fe, Rio Grande, and Union Pacific steam locomotives. This will include early lighter steam engines such as the Challenger and Mountain Types needed for long hauls during the 1940-1950s.

Passenger trains will be represented by the popular California Zephyr, the Santa Fe Super Chief and The Daylight as well as luxury trains pulled by the Rio Grande and Union Pacific. Diesel trains will also be running--both passenger and freight units.

Often two or more trains will run at a time and are controlled by digital command and control. Many of the trains will be equipped with sound systems for bell and whistle effect.

Chris Fox, model railroader, built the railroad layout in 2010. He has been modeling trains for about 55 years and is a member of several public and private model train groups. He also works to restore full size equipment and travels much of the year displaying this historic model railroad.
